UW Credit Union Awards Community Values Scholarships

UW Credit Union has named seven high school seniors to receive $2,000 college scholarships as part of its Community Values Scholarship program.

"Our scholarship program recognizes individuals who share our commitment to making our communities stronger and better places to live," said Jaimes Johnson, Director of Community Partnerships at UW Credit Union. "The impact these students have on people's lives is truly remarkable, and we're proud to recognize them for all that they have achieved."

The following seven individuals will each receive a $2,000 scholarship award:

• Carter Klaas, McFarland High School, helped with a variety of service projects as a Love Begins Here volunteer.
• Cindy Perez, La Follette High School, mentored younger students through their freshman year as a Pride Guide.
• Cynthia Maduka, Madison East High School, acted as a mentor to children as part of the Union of Nigerians in the Madison Area (UNIMA).
• Daniela Pincheira-Berthelon, Edgewood High School, served as a Spanish translator for children with disabilities at Gio's Garden.
• Devin Burton, Riverside University High School, dedicated time to the New Horizon Clothing Drive and the Riverside Blood Drive.
• Jasmyn Kosier, Wauwatosa West High School, assisted children with playing instruments as part of Wauwatosa West Orchestra's Kinderkonzert.

Recipients are strong academic scholars with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or greater, have need for the scholarship and are planning to attend a UW System school or Madison College in the fall of 2016. Students wrote an essay about their community service work, sharing what it meant to the community and to themselves.

"These students worked to promote change for the better," said Johnson. "The outlook for our communities is strong due to the hard work and compassionate nature of these individuals."
